Small Town, Big Pride, Big Heart.
Stillman Valley's notorious run in the 2024-25 Girls Basketball season was one to remember; records were broken, and teammate bonds that never broke apart. This team was special, a program going 27-0 before losing to rivals Byron by a score of 38-42.
That loss just showed them who they were and who was on top throughout the Class 2A IHSA Girls Basketball playoff program. Stars like Senior Taylor Davidson (Ashland WBB Commit) and younger stars such as Dailene Wade (Soph) and Lillian Green (Fresh) were leading the journey to the playoffs.
Meeting arch rivals Byron once again in the Class 2A Sectional Final, but the tables turned this time. Stillman leads the way 47-45, entering the super-sectionals ranked #9 in the state with a phenomenal 32-1 record. The team is going against Peoria (Notre Dame), the reigning 2A State Champions, and the game was close heading into this matchup. Still, fouls and poor decision-making unfortunately led Notre Dame to win the game.
The Stillman Valley crowd erupts in excitement after Taylor Davidson (15) makes a three-pointer to cut the lead down to 2, during the Stillman Valley 56-67 loss against Peoria (Notre Dame) in the IHSA Class 2A Super-Sectional playoff.
More Than A Team.
Stillman Valley captured its 6th Sectional plaque in program history during the Winter 24-25 Girls Basketball season.
Stillman Valley last won the plaque back in the 2016-17 school year. After 2 consecutive years of advancing to the Class 2A Sectionals, unable to come home with the victory, Down at halftime, Taylor Davidson (15) and her Cardinals come up with a strategy to prevent Byron's Malia Morton (11) and Macy Groharing (4) from scoring more points and opportunities to have teammates score.
The plan worked successfully, and Davidson and the Cardinals narrowly took down the Tigers by 2, making their way up on the rankings, consistently ranked #1 on the Class 2A AP Poll, and ranked #9 in the state of Illinois. Walking away
